Who doesn’t love a good jumpsuit? The all-in-one garment has made a big comeback in the past few years, and for good reason: It’s stylish, looks great on all sorts of bodies, and often looks as if it can go from factory floor to red carpet gala with just a change of shoes and accessories.
But finding the right jumpsuit fit can be tough for some plus-sized customers. While the length may be right in one suit, the waist may not, and while another might get the bust right, the crotch length might feel a little too short. Getting the right jumpsuit as a plus-sized buyer is all about trial and error, and being willing to kiss a few fashion frogs before really finding your jumpsuit prince.
In service of that quest, we put together a list of 16 of our favorite plus-size jumpsuits with the help of fashion experts. Together, we came up with a list of the suits that we think feel great, look good, and are smart buys. Read on, and shop. Your closet will thank you.
What We Love: This jumpsuit comes in a wide range of sizes and colors, meaning there’s something out there for just about everyone.
What We Don’t Love: The unisex sizes can be tricky to navigate, so finding your fit may require a few false starts.
Chances are, if you’ve seen someone cool-looking rocking a sharp, short-sleeved jumpsuit lately, it’s from Big Bud Press. The Los Angeles-based manufacturer and retailer has made a name for itself by churning out well-made and stylish unisex basics from polos to pants, but the company’s jumpsuit line is where it really shines. With about 30 colors and prints in production, the company has something for everyone. It sells suits with short sleeves and suits with long sleeves, and if you’re petite, you can get a suit cut specially for you. Big Bud’s jumpsuits are durable, becoming increasingly comfortable with each wash. They’re a solid investment, too, with the suits holding their value pretty well on the resale market, even after a good deal of wear.
If we have one caveat about Big Bud’s jumpsuits, it's that the brand’s unisex sizing can be a bit confusing, especially for first-time customers. While Nooworks founder Jennifer D’Angelo says she’s a fan of actually going to a Big Bud store to try a few suits on if you can swing it, if you’re not in a market that has an outlet, be sure to take your measurements and consult the size chart. Don’t be afraid to seek alterations, either: Get something that fits you around the middle, even if you have to lop a few inches off the legs after purchase. It’s a quick and easy alteration that you can get done at pretty much any dry cleaner, and it’ll make all the difference in terms of you feeling your best.
Material: Cotton twill | Size: XXS–6XL
What We Love: It’s cute and it’s affordable.
What We Don’t Love: Some buyers say the waistband can feel a bit tight, and note the zipper is hard to do by yourself.
A quick and easy jumpsuit with a reasonable amount of stretch, Cider’s V-Neck velvet jumpsuit is the perfect piece to wear to dinner, to a party, or even to work. With a high waist and wide legs, it’s universally flattering, and the V-neck frames the face quite nicely. The back zipper gives the suit a slightly more formal fit compared to something that’s entirely elastic, and the suit’s rich green color is lush and semi-reflective. Best of all, this jumpsuit is just $32, making it a certified steal. What’s not to love about something cute, flattering, and a great bargain?
What We Love: Both the suit and the brand are delightfully quirky.
What We Don’t Love: Despite it's convertibility, it’s not the absolute most versatile piece, but sometimes that doesn’t matter.
Another Los Angeles-based studio, Fashion Brand makes clothes (it says) with lizards in mind. Luckily for us humans, the company has also seen fit to produce human-sized garments like The Director jumpsuit, which Fashion Brand says was designed with female directors in mind.
Breathable, easy to move in, and delightfully confusing, this blue jumpsuit can be worn five ways (there are suspenders included) and looks the same from the front as it does from the back. It’s machine-washable, which is great, but it’s also a conversation starter. Everyone will want to know where you got your wild jumpsuit, and you’ll be able to show them all its neat little tricks and quirks — worthwhile reasons for the $200 indulgence.
Material: Linen | Size: XXS/XS–3X/4X
What We Love: This easy-to-wear jumpsuit is perfect for lazy days at home.
What We Don’t Love: Sometimes garments labeled “plus-size” on Amazon are anything but. Just to be safe, you might want to size up on this if you’re buying.
There’s a whole world of jumpsuits now that are basically just sleeveless, one-piece playsuits. You can wear them over a bathing suit to the beach, over a T-shirt for school pick-up and drop-off, or with just about anything for a run to the store. They’re categorically easy, and they’re increasingly popular specifically for that reason: People love how versatile they are, and they love that you can just jump into them and waltz out the door.
Dokotoo’s entry in the loose, sleeveless jumpsuit market comes in more than 35 colors and fits sizes up to 4X. (If you want something baggy, you might want to size up, since these Amazon “plus size” options are sometimes anything but.) Customers say it’s so comfortable that it feels like pajamas, and note that, while it’s perhaps not the most luxe garment they’ve ever purchased, considering it costs just $25, it’s pretty well made.
Material: Polyester, spandex | Size: S–4XL
A perfectly utilitarian garment, Lucy & Jak’s Carmen jumpsuit wouldn’t look out of place in an auto body repair shop. The charmingly basic suit comes in black or dark green and has all the hallmarks of a traditional coverall, from ample pockets to a smart collar and set of cuffed sleeves. This isn’t your dad’s old set of Dickie’s, though: It has a slightly more tailored shape, with a structured waist and a tapered leg. A nice placket hides hidden buttons, and the garment is made of 25 percent recycled cotton that’s been colored with low-impact Oeko-Tex dyes, so you can feel pretty solid about your impact on the environment.
Material: Recycled cotton | Size: XS–4XL
What We Love: Shortalls are incredibly versatile.
What We Don’t Love: It’s hand wash-only.
There’s something so cute about a short little pair of overalls. They look great with some tights in the fall and winter, and you can dress them up or down with relative ease.
We’re particularly fond of Milumia’s corduroy shortalls — or romper, as the brand refers to it — which comes in five colors, has a criss-cross back, and just screams “casual but put together.” At just $27, it’s a bargain for anyone looking for a versatile new piece, with Amazon buyers calling it the perfect garment for traveling or working outside. (FYI: Those same buyers also recommend sizing up if you’re looking for a more flowy look, so plan accordingly.) Pair them with tights and a spangly long sleeve for a holiday party, or a tank top and work boots for a Sunday afternoon hike.
Material: Polyester, elastane | Size: L–5XL
What We Love: This extremely versatile jumpsuit can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
What We Don’t Love: Back pockets are non-functional.
A favorite of influencer Tinsaye Berhanu, this Eloquii jumpsuit has cool, suit-inspired details like a notch lapel and faux buttons, something Berhanu says makes it “feel like something you could wear to the office or on the red carpet.” The black color is super versatile, and the high-rise fit is flattering on all types of body shapes. Stretch knit construction means it’s not too hard to get in and out of, and the front scoop pockets mean you’ll always have somewhere for your hands to go if you’re feeling fidgety.
Material: Rayon, nylon, and spandex | Size: 14–32
What We Love: It’s fair trade-certified.
What We Don’t Love: It only comes in three colors.
A twist on the traditional coverall, Known Supply’s Libra jumpsuit stands out because of its cropped, wide legs, which give the garment a bit of casual flair. (You’ve got to love a basic with a twist.) You can rock the Libra with a pair of Doc Martens if you’re feeling tough, or throw it on with a pair of Birkenstocks for a day at the beach. Constructed of breathable and durable organic cotton twill, the Libra is built to last, with Known Supply customers calling it “comfy” and “easy,” while hailing its overall versatility.
Material: Organic cotton twill | Size: XS–4XL
What We Love: The brand’s patterns are fun, bold, and can start a conversation.
What We Don’t Love: Once a pattern is sold out, it’s gone forever.
As a woman-run, woman-owned business, Nooworks seems to have special insight into what its customers want. The line of brightly colored and patterned garments are all well-constructed and built for a range of real women’s bodies, and once you find the cut that works for you — like this one-piece garden suit, for instance — you can just keep buying the same cut in different patterns, knowing you’ll like the result.
Speaking of the garden suit: Built from 100 percent linen, the oversized romper feels easy and breezy, slipping right on over your legs and zipping up the back. You can wear it with nothing underneath when it’s hot, or throw on a shirt and some boots underneath if you need a little extra warmth. There’s a pattern on Nooworks’ site for everyone, but if you’re not feeling what’s available today, just wait a few weeks: The brand releases new styles and colors multiple times every year. (And if you’re afraid of color, D’Angelo has a tip: “You can wear black if black is how you feel but you will feel so much happier in a wild print. Beyond that, everyone will want to get to know this exciting and vibrant being!”)
Material: Linen | Size: XS–5X
What We Love: The denim fabric is versatile and easy to wear.
What We Don’t Love: It only comes in sizes up to 3XL.
A super easy smock that’s great alone or as a layering piece, Hayden’s wide-leg denim jumpsuit is a must-have basic. We love the elastic sides, which give the piece shape, and the buttons on the front, which add some detail. While the spaghetti-like straps might be a challenge for larger-busted women who love a traditional bra, you could easily rock this jumpsuit with a camisole with a built-in shelf bra or just layer a tank up over your lingerie if you feel like you need a little more security.
While she’s admittedly a little biased, Angela Raygoza, a marketing associate at Hayden, calls this jumpsuit one of her all-time faves, saying, “It’s truly an all-in-one, classic jumpsuit that can be styled up or down for any occasion.”
Material: Polyester, rayon | Size: S–3XL
What We Love: It looks like a tracksuit but fits like a jumpsuit.
What We Don’t Love: It only comes in black.
Comfortable and flattering, Spanx’s AirEssentials jumpsuit is made to be lightweight, super soft, and ultra drapey. With long sleeves and wide legs, it offers a lot of coverage, but you could add a contrasting turtleneck for some coziness if you’re still feeling a little chilly. The zip front styling makes this jumpsuit look a bit like a tracksuit but you don’t have to worry about the mid-section bulk that so often comes with a two-piece garment, and Spanx offers this suit in petite, regular, and tall fits, meaning it should suit a wide range of customers.
Material: Modal, polyester, and elastane | Size: XS–3X in Regular, Tall, and Petite
What We Love: The stretch denim material and adjustable waist snaps mean you can cinch this suit to fit your curves.
What We Don’t Love: While Good American uses a plus-sized model for some of its photos, it doesn’t offer that option for all colors or styles, meaning you may be left occasionally wondering about fit and shape.
Khloé Kardashian knows how to make a woman’s shape pop. With her Good American line, the multi-hyphenate star has created a world of garments that hug and uplift all sorts of curves and swerves, helping wearers feel sexy and supportive.
Take, for example, the brand’s Fit For Success jumpsuit. Constructed of stretch denim with a hidden zipper and adjustable snaps at the waist, the garment can be cinched and pulled into whatever shape looks best for your body. Well-placed pockets help guide the eye as well, and the short sleeves and flare collar give the garment just a bit more style.
Material: Cotton, modal, elastane | Size: XS–5XL
What We Love: This jumpsuit is so easy to wear that it’s practically pajamas.
What We Don’t Love: Harem pants aren’t always for everyone.
A super easy garment perfect for days near the seashore, backyard BBQs, or fall walks when paired with a denim jacket, Fashion To Figure’s Trinity jumpsuit is just that versatile. With a comfortable smocked top, this strapless jumpsuit has side-slit harem pants, making it both breezy and a little sexy. Exemplifying what Berhanu calls the “effortless” nature of a jumpsuit, the Trinity can be easily dressed up or down, as the influencer explains, “with just the change of shoes and accessories.”
Material: Rayon, spandex | Size: XL–4XL
What We Love: Classic styling will make you feel like a silver-screen starlet.
What We Don’t Love: It’s basically a catsuit, meaning that some wearers might feel a little exposed.
Who doesn’t love Marilyn Monroe? The famously curvy Hollywood starlet might have left us long ago, but her signature style remains, as exemplified in this striking black halter jumpsuit from Torrid. Made of a lightweight Ponte knit, this jumpsuit is more catsuit-like than some other items on this list, but if you’re looking for something form-fitting and sexy, this could be the option for you — especially if you love a retro look. Adjustable straps give the wearer some level of customization, and the garment has subtle waistband detail as well as functional pockets, should you need a place to throw your phone. Add a pair of black pumps, some cat eye sunnies, and a red lip, and all you’ll need is a ‘57 Chevy convertible to complete the look.
Material: Rayon, nylon, and spandex | Size: 10–30
What We Love: It’s basic, but it’s elegant.
What We Don’t Love: Given that it’s entirely black, it’s a little hard to see all the detailing in photos online.
A swishy little playsuit that’s equal parts casual and chic, Adrianna Papell’s pintuck jumpsuit is versatility exemplified. With a flattering V-neck in front and a back zip for subtle security, this sleeveless jersey jumpsuit has pintuck detailing along the waist to give the wearer some additional shape. It’s fully lined, which is nice, and the wide-leg cut pairs just as well with heels as it does with cowboy boots.
Material: Polyester, elastane | Size: 14W–24W
What We Love: The contrasting collar and belt add fun flair.
What We Don’t Love: Some buyers say the zipper can be hard to get in and out of on your own.
There’s something so retro about this Ulla Popken striped jumpsuit, which exudes “vintage seaside bathing costume” with its cropped, straight-leg fit and charmingly retro print. The V-neck garment has a shirt collar and wide tie belt at the waist for some flare, and it comes in both dark blue and snow white options, the latter of which has a bit of a nautical feel. Wear it to a beachy wedding, or just on a weekend when you’re feeling like you could use a little sand in your toes.
There’s no one hard and fast rule when it comes to what jumpsuits work on all people. That being said, if you find that, as a plus-sized person, you’re typically into more structured fits, look for a jumpsuit made out of a stiffer fabric, like a twill or denim. Those fabrics tend to skim over curves, giving you a cool, utilitarian look. If, on the other hand, you’re into a more flowy, ethereal look in your clothes — and if you like to hide your shape behind more fabric — then consider a wide-leg jumpsuit, since the fabric’s flow will give you a longer, leaner silhouette. A tied or cinched waist is also a good option for those people since it’ll give you the appearance of a waist even if the rest of you is swathed in voluminous fabric.
Marah Eakin, the author of this article, has been a journalist reporting on entertainment, fashion, and culture for almost 15 years. In her 40-plus years, she estimates she’s owned at least five jumpsuits, and has tried on about 10 times as many. As a plus-sized woman herself, she knows the stress of trying to find a well-fitting and flattering jumpsuit and just wants to help other people feel their best in what they’re wearing.
For this roundup, she interviewed Nooworks founder Jennifer D’Angelo, Hayden marketing associate Angela Raygoza, and influencer Tinsaye Berhanu.
